getting started with using layer 2 features of IOU

some IOU images come preconfigured like this:

interface Ethernet0/0
no ip address
duplex auto

IOU1#sh int e0/0 switchport
Name: Et0/0
Switchport: Disabled

in order to use layer 2 features for trhis port we will need to do the following:

IOU1#conf t
Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.
IOU1(config)#int e0/0
*Apr 27 22:17:34.933: %SYS-5-CONFIG_I: Configured from console by console
*Apr 27 22:17:35.317: %LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface Ethernet0/0, changed state to up
*Apr 27 22:17:36.318: %LINEPROTO-5-UPDOWN: Line protocol on Interface Ethernet0/0, changed state to up

now we can see layer 2 features of the port as expected:

IOU1#sh int e0/0 switchport
Name: Et0/0
